(not a pic of the car, but close enough)
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for a new car, I decided to give the CTS a shot, mostly because it is in budget, I've always liked the look of them, and the local dealership that I frequently stop by had one.

So, I got a solid 5 minutes of driving time, which is far, far from enough to get a great understanding for it, but I did get to feel it out a bit.
The 3.6 V6 is pretty powerful, or so I thought, and seemed to make a pretty nice noise from what little I could wring it out with the dealer GM sitting right next to me. The transmission is very smooth and seemed very wiling to up-or-downshift, depending on what I needed.
Interestingly, the gas pedal was heavy . Like, I haven't had to put that much concerted effort into a gas pedal since my old 300CE. While it took me a minute to get used to, I actually kind of prefer that to the whisper-and-you-rocket-forward throttle of something like a 2nd gen Scion xB.
I got to drive through some twisties, but again with the GM sitting right next to me I couldn't exactly hustle it. It seemed tight and rather composed, though. The steering was, however, pretty vague. Like, I've driven much worse (2nd Gen Scion xB IMMEDIATELY springs to mind), but given that I had just gotten out of my Geo (which has manual steering) it seemed to be a bit lacking and really the worst part about the drive. Not necessarily a deal killer, of course, but something to keep in mind while I am trying out other things.
The interior was super nice, at least compared what I am used to, and the seats seemed up to the task of not making my back hurt. And it had heated seats, which are divine.
I'll be writing these semi-frequently as I get closer to buying something new, I guess. More or less just to collect my thoughts for a final decision.
